House of Hospitality

Sacred Tent is a Catholic Worker House of Hospitality. Its services include shelter, food, and any support required for the most vulnerable in society, as instructed by Christ and reiterated through Dorothy Day and the Catholic Worker movement. It is guided by the cornerstones of prayer, service, community, and simplicity.

For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock.

Psalm 27:5

Who Do We Serve?

Sacred Tent is a non-profit organization that serves individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the suburban area of Chicago.

We are always looking for volunteers that can share their talents and time. Volunteering at Sacred Tent is an opportunity to shape your life and the lives of those that need help.

Does it Work?

We started out four years ago, with just one family helping another family in a time of crisis. This has grown into two different families supporting our 11th and 12th guests, with the previous 10 breaking the cycle of homelessness. All of them are still prayed for and visited regularly. We attribute our success rate to those that support Sacred Tent with prayers, friendships, and donations as well as our strict expectations of our guests. All guests help with chores, gather for mealtime, work or be in school full time, and meet regularly with our volunteer case workers. Sacred Tent is a registered 501(c)(3) organization, with 100% of donations going directly to support our guests.

““We all have known the long loneliness and we have learned that the only solution is love and that love comes with community.”
